Swansea enter talks with former West Ham player

Italian veteran Alessandro Diamanti has been in talks with Swansea recently

The midfielder and Swansea have been in talks as the Italian could be the potential replacement of Gylfi Sigurdsson

Sky Italia state that discussions have already taken place between the club and the 34-year-old. The midfielder has already stated that he does not wish to play in Serie B following Palermo’s recent relegation.
A move to Swansea would be the Italian’s third Premier League spell after West Ham 2009-10 and Watford for six months in 2015. Last season in the Serie A, Diamanti only scored once and got 5 assists in 34 league appearances.

The player is somewhat of a journeyman, due to the last 10 years seeing him representing 11 different teams such as Atalanta, Fiorentina and Bologna. The signing of the Italian could soften the blow of losing Swansea’s current Icelandic playmaker who has been heavily linked with a move to Everton this summer.  Having already rejected ÂŁ40 million bids from both Leicester and Everton, the Welsh club are holding out for a big ÂŁ50 million bid. Despite the price tag being considered excessive, it looks inevitable  that he will leave and a replacement will be needed.
Unfortunately , Sampdoria are also an interested club for Diamanti’s services. The midfielder has a desire to remain in Italy, which can prove to be a sticky point in the negotiations between Swansea and Palmero.
