Celia Sasic believes the 2029 Women’s Euros in Germany will help society and promote gender equality. The former Germany footballer serves as vice president of the German Football Association (DFB), overseeing equality and diversity. Sasic, who has previously won the Euros with his national team, is cautiously confident that Germany will be given hosting rights.
“But in the end, it’s a competition and an election process; you can’t predict the outcome,” she said. DW addresses the most pressing issues surrounding the Women’s European Championship awarding. The decision is up to the 20-member UEFA Executive Committee, which will vote on December 3 at the European football governing body’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The outcome is expected around 5 p.m. CET.
Slovenia’s UEFA President, Aleksandar Ceferin, leads the committee. Sixteen of the committee’s members are chosen by the UEFA Congress, two are selected by the European Football Clubs Association, and one represents the European Leagues Association.

Even so, the 28-year-old might be a member of Sweden’s national squad. Sweden’s captain, Kosovare Asllani, claims the 36-year-old midfielder is not interested in competing in the European Championship after nearly four years. However, she would prefer a Swedish-Danish partnership for the benefit of her national teammates.
Another individual who really wishes for a European Championship on Swedish territory is Sweden’s national team captain, Tony Gustavsson. He remembers how exciting it was to manage the Australian national team for the World Cup in Australia in 2023.
‘I have had the honour of playing in a championship in a country that has it on home turf, and it would mean so much, not only for this national team, but for football in this country in general,’ adds Gustavsson.
Not to mention the experiences we would share with the Swedish fans. Not to mention money and investments and the potential impact on infrastructure and other aspects of Swedish football, argues Gustavsson.
