Sweden head coach Graham Potter has offered an update on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall’s recovery from a recent concussion, confirming that the youngster will rejoin national team training this week under medical supervision.

Sweden Boss: Bergvall Won’t Be Rushed, Heading Still Prohibited

The 19-year-old picked up a head injury during Tottenham’s Premier League defeat to Chelsea on November 1, which forced him off the pitch after only seven minutes.

Since then, Bergvall has missed Spurs’ fixtures against FC Copenhagen and Manchester United as a precaution.

Despite his recent absence, Potter decided to include the talented midfielder in his squad for Sweden’s November internationals.

Speaking to the media, the former Chelsea and Brighton boss revealed that Bergvall is progressing well but is still unable to head the ball during training sessions.

“He will train tomorrow, but no heading,” Potter said.

“We have to assess him properly once he joins up with the team.

I’ll speak to him and the medical staff, but as I understand it, he should be with us tomorrow.”

According to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, Bergvall is currently undergoing specialised treatment as he continues his recovery.

Potter added that the medical team will make the final decision regarding his availability for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

“Around Thursday, I think he could be back to full training,” the Sweden boss explained.

“But the doctors must give the all-clear first. The most important thing is Lucas’s health.”

Sweden are preparing for a crucial World Cup qualifying clash against Switzerland on Saturday, followed by a home match against Slovenia next Tuesday.

The national team sits bottom of their qualifying group but still have a chance to reach the World Cup through the play-offs after winning their Nations League group.

If Bergvall completes both matches without issues, he is expected to be fit in time for Tottenham’s North London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on November 23.
