Following Alan Sheehan’s dismissal, Kim Hellberg is anticipated to be a strong candidate for the Swansea City position; informal discussions are reportedly already underway. The Swede has been on SA1’s radar for a while; before Sheehan’s appointment, he nearly accepted the position.
He has reportedly been closely monitoring the most recent developments ever since, and sources in Sweden assert that preliminary communication has already taken place, albeit an agreement is still far off. After leading Hammarby to second place in the Swedish league, Hellberg’s ideal next move would probably be to play football in England.
Although a number of Championship teams are reportedly keeping an eye on him, it is known that he would be interested in accepting the position at Swansea. When Hellberg was considered for the position back in April, it is thought that he really pleased Swansea’s management. However, the team’s amazing run under Sheehan eventually dashed his chances of getting the post.
Swansea City hold talks with 37-year-old manager
Sheehan’s impressive caretaker tenure made the decision to hire him permanently comprehensible, but it was a risky move that backfired catastrophically. In addition to supporters turning against the now-former head coach, the Swansea board has also received a lot of flak this season.
In light of this, the Swans management cannot afford to make another error with the next hire. Although Hellberg has established a solid coaching reputation while leading Varnamo and Hammarby, his lack of Championship experience makes him an even riskier option.
Hellberg is rumoured to have followed developments in South Wales in recent months, even though he was unable to land the position the first time around. He is also understood to have had preliminary talks with Swansea following Sheehan’s resignation, though a contract is not anticipated anytime soon.
In addition to Swansea’s desire from the previous season, if he gets the position at the second attempt, he may be an interesting addition.
