Defender wishes he played for Jose Mourinho longer

Former-Chelsea player Tal Ben Haim has admitted he has regrets that he didn’t play under Jose Mourinho for longer.

The centre-back will make his return to Stamford Bridge tonight as his Maccabi Tel Aviv side take on the Blues in their first Champions League group game of the season.

Chelsea have had a shocking start to the new campaign, picking up just four points from five games in their domestic league, and will be hoping to kick-start their season in Europe this evening.

However, one man trying to stop them will be their former player as Ben Haim returns.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Israeli has admitted he regrets not playing for Mourinho longer during his time with the Premier League outfit.

Ben Haim featured 23 times for Chelsea from 2007-2008 before moving to Manchester City, and he has praised the influence Mourinho had on his career.

Ben Haim Has Regrets

“I learned a lot in four months under him,’ Ben Haim said. ‘I regret it was a very, very short period, because I’m sure I could have improved a lot if I continued to play under him. But it’s part of football.

“I’m sure he’s going to prepare the team very, very well.

“I know even when we played against weaker teams he always prepared us like we were going to play a Champions League final.

“I’m sure they’re going to prepare and take us very seriously.”
