Former Blue’s player Pat Nevin predicts a “northern revival” this season.

Chelsea have had a massively impressive first season under new boss Antonio Conte.

Only London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal currently stand in the way of a Premier League and FA Cup double clincher.

Tottenham are the bigger favourites as Arsenal seem be getting distracted and slipping in certain crucial matches

However, Pat Nevin, who played five years at the Bridge between 1983 and 1988, believes, teams like Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool could come back all guns blazing next term after failing to mount a serious title challenge this time around.

The only thing Pat hasn’t taken into account yet is the upcoming transfer window, the three teams he mentions may not pull in the players they want, this could play a factor as Chelsea are linked with some world class players right now.

So many factors yet to come into play.

Writing for Chelsea Football Club’s official website, Nevin said: “So with five games left there are only two rivals, Spurs in the League and Arsenal in the FA Cup.

“The expected northern revival looks to be behind schedule but I am not writing it off for next season whether it is Man City, Man United or Liverpool who arrive at the top table.

“In the meantime, it is all about the capital fare and the big three here.

“Let’s be honest, a double at any time is fantastic but one which would see off our two big local rivals would have a certain delicious flavor, one savored for a rather long time in SW6 I suspect.”
