Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has spoken of his thoughts on the Olivier Giroud transfer to Chelsea.

Thierry Henry reckons that Olivier Giroud was the best possible target man for Chelsea and was the best of the bunch of all the strikers that were linked with the English champions.

Chelsea agreed an ÂŁ18m deal for French striker Olivier Giroud on transfer deadline day with Chelsea back-up striker Michy Batshuayi going to Borussia Dortmund.

The Blues tied Giroud, 31, to an 18 month deal.

And Henry thinks that Chelsea should have had Giroud as their top target instead of being a last option.

Henry told Sky Sports:”We all knew it was going to be a matter of when with the domino effect with Aubameyang. It allowed Giroud to go.

“It’s a weird one because you could feel yesterday when he clapped the Arsenal fans [after the 3-1 defeat at Swansea City], there was something there in him. I thought he did what he had to do for Arsenal. He knew Chelsea was coming for him and they’re ahead of Arsenal. Arsene [Wenger] is not playing you… Lacazette is in front of you.”

Henry also said that he thinks Giroud is a major coup for Chelsea and was the best player to sign of all their targets.

“The way he likes to play suits Antonio Conte’s football, he likes a target man with a brain. I wish him all the best but Arsenal have lost a great support player”, he said.

“He should have been their first target. Maybe they didn’t think it could happen but then he became available. He’s got experience in the league, he can hold the ball, is he going to be alongside Morata? I don’t know, but now they have two options.”

Giroud is contracted to June 2019
