The defender joined Aston Villa on Deadline Day

Tiago Ilori has admitted his relief at leaving Liverpool for fellow Premier League side Aston Villa on the final day of the summer transfer window.

The Portugal Under 21 international joined the Reds from Sporting Lisbon in 2012 for ÂŁ7 million, but has never made a first team appearance for the club.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers opted to send Ilori out on loan, with the 22-year old previously spending time at Granada and Bordeaux.

‘I’m very happy to be here’

The move to Villa Park is Ilori’s third loan spell away from Anfield, but this time there is a view to a permanent move following his season-long loan.

When speaking to Aston Villa’s official club channel, AVTV, the centre-half said: “It was all last-minute so I’m relieved that I had such a good option and I’m very happy to be here.”

He also added: “I can’t say I know everything about Aston Villa’s history but I know that they’re a very stable team.”

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League and that’s why I signed for Liverpool in the first place,” admitted Llori.

“I’m very happy that Aston Villa are hopefully going to give me that chance.”

Llori may well get his chance to play in the Premier League when Tim Sherwood’s side travel to Leicester City.

If his debut comes at the home of the Foxes, it will be in front of the Sky cameras; as the match has been selected as the 4pm kick-off for Super Sunday.
