Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld has said that he has his own ideas about his future but Tottenham Hotspur has the final say. The 29-year old has been strongly linked to Manchester United for quite a long time but Tottenham also had a condition. The Spurs are asking £70 million for the Belgian. The Red Devils had previously made a bid of £55 million which would still have made Alderweireld their most expensive defender.

Speaking about his future, Alderweireld said, ”I have another two years contract. Tottenham decides about my future. Of course I have my own idea. But that is not the case now.”

The centre back has paralleled Belgium’s World Cup campaign with Tottenham’s improvement over the past few years. “It is something for the club and the fans to be proud of, you can see that for the past few seasons. Of course everybody will say you didn’t win anything yet but our level every season is top four and we are extremely consistent.”

“You can see at this World Cup. The players are at a good level and being decisive players for their countries. Spurs are going the right way.” One of the best defenders in Europe , Alderweireld was one of the best defenders during the World Cup. Except the group game against England, Alderweireld played every minute of the other 6 matches for Belgium, providing an assist for Eden Hazard’s goal against Tunisia. He was brilliant at the back and made some crucial clearances for the team.

The most notable clearance from Alderweireld was perhaps the one he made from Eric Dier’s shot off the goal line in Belgium’s third place playoff against England. Belgium won the match 2-0 to record their best ever performance at a FIFA World Cup.
