Former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino praised Unai Emery for deciding to play Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette together. Arsenal have rebounded well from their poor Premier League start by winning their last four matches. They also began their Europa League campaign with a convincing win over Ukrainian club Vorskla Poltava.

During the start of the Premier League, Emery did not start Aubameyang and Lacazette together. However, the decision to start both of them together in the last few matches have paid dividends and Tony Cascarino has praised Emery for taking this decision.

He said, “One good sign about Unai Emery’s early days at Arsenal is that he seems to be trying to work out a way of playing that allows him to start both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Arsenal look a much more threatening team with both forwards in the starting XI and having Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka in midfield gives good balance between attack and defence.

I said last season that Lacazette looks isolated when he doesn’t have like-minded forwards playing in and around him so he can play flicks and quick interchanges. The pair get on well off the pitch too — if Emery can get both of them firing on it they can score 40 to 50 goals between them this season.”

Arsenal are presently 6th in the Premier League table with 12 points. They have the same points as Tottenham but the latter have a superior goal-difference. Unai Emery’s team are currently just one point behind Watford who are fourth. The Gunners begin their Carabao Cup campaign against Brentford tomorrow. They then play Watford on Saturday.
