Fernando Torres is reportedly set for a return to Spain with Atletico Madrid, according to the La Liga title holders assistant manager, German Burgos.
Torres, aged 30, is currently on a two-year loan deal at AC Milan from Chelsea, however he has struggled in Italy, netting just twice in 10 Serie A league games.
And now, it seems that the former Liverpool striker is on the verge of returning to his boyhood club, who he joined agd 11, with Spanish media reporting thst a deal is in place.
“It (the Torres deal) is on the verge of completion and we are waiting for things to firm up,” Burgos was quoted as saying in Spanish media.
“He will be a very important reinforcement for the second half of the season,” added Diego Simeone’s number two.
“We will get the best out of him, the same as everyone, and he knows where he is coming to.”
Atletico winger Alessio Cerci is set to go the other way in part of the loan deal between the two sides.
Torres signed for Chelsea for a then British record fee of £50 million from Liverpool in January 2011.
