Reports during the week claimed that Tottenham had made a £14m bid for the Sevilla defender, who is also wanted by Liverpool, with striker Roberto Soldado moving back to La Liga on loan as part of the deal.

But according to reports made by Sky Sports, Tottenham made no such offer and are highly unlikely to let their £26m summer signing leave on loan.

Recently appointed manager Mauricio Pochettino, technical director Franco Baldini and chairman Daniel Levy held a meeting on Monday where they discussed all transfer targets and who will be sold this summer.

And Alberto Moreno, who just missed out on Spain’s World Cup squad, is not part of Spurs’ plans.

Sevilla president Jose Castro revealed during the week that Liverpool were keen to sign the young defedner but the club had received no formal bid.

He said: “It’s true that there’s interest from Liverpool and we’re waiting to see if that turns into a reality, which right now it isn’t.

“Whoever wants to leave can do so, but we’ll be the ones setting the prices.”
