Tottenham Hotspur Close To Signing Matt Doherty From Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Matt Doherty from Wolves, as per reports.

The Daily Telegraph claims that the Wanderers have already started looking for replacements and have picked Valencia’s Thierry Correira.

Jose Mourinho has been fed up by Serge Aurier’s incompetence at the right-back post since taking over in December. Spurs did manage to squeeze into one of the Europa League qualification spots but overall, the team needs major surgery.

One of them would be the defence. Even though Joseph Tanganga has proven himself to be capable of filling in, he still needs to develop his game. Mourinho wants a more Premier League-proven defender who will be able to deliver consistently.

Doherty fits that bill perfectly. He appeared in 49 games across all competitions for Wolves last season, handing out 10 goal contributions. He is highly versatile, brings plenty of quality to the pitch and is a solid team player. Reports suggest that Tottenham could conclude a deal for him for ÂŁ15m.

Wolves are looking for ways to replace him and have set their sights on Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles as well. According to reports, their first bid of ÂŁ20m was rejected by the Gunners.
