As per latest reports, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Real Madrid youngster, Marco Asensio.
It is no secret that Mauricio Pochettino might have to go well beyond normal measures to get the attacking midfielder but such a move could turn out to be the turning point for the entire North London football club.
Asensio is one of the most talented youngsters in European football and is touted to be a future star. At 22, he might still be a rotational option in the current Madrid squad but there is no telling as to when he’ll turn into a regular starter.
Asensio progressed at a meteoric rate under former manager Zinedine Zidane and has already racked up 20 appearances for the Spanish national team. Madrid are at odds end this season with many of their players hitting the transfer rumour mills.
Even with 23 games, 4 goals and 4 assists under his belt this term, Asensio is yet to secure a permanent spot in the team’s starting XI. His contract with the club is set to run till the summer of 2023.
The Spaniard ideally likes to operate from the central attacking midfield role but has mostly been shifted out wide by David Loptegui and Santiago Solari at the Bernabeu.
Even with the distinct possibility of Tottenham landing the youngster anytime soon, Asensio does not seem like the perfect fit into Pochettino’s current system. World class talents like Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen already operate in the same position as him with Erik Lamela as backup.
