Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has commented for the first time about the incident involving right-back Kyle Walker and has revealed that he held two chats with him about the picture.

Just before England played Ukraine on Tuesday evening, a picture was released in the English press of Walker inhaling nitrous oxide through a balloon, more commonly known as laughing gas.

Despite the photo being taken in the pre-season, it was only released this week to the public and the Spurs boss spoke about the situation today in his press conference.

The Spurs manager said: ‘I spoke with Kyle Walker before the story came out because the incident was a long time ago.

‘The player has assumed the responsibility of having failed to set an example, which I think is something that is honourable, but you wouldn’t expect him to do it again. He accepted the responsibility of having failed as a role model towards young people and I don’t think we will see the incident again.

‘I spoke to him (again). I think he has assured me of what he has told also publicly. He has assured me before, the news came out anyway. He seems in the right state of mind. He told me he was in the right state of mind for England as well, so I see no issue there.’
