Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a sensational bid for Chelsea’s Juan Mata.
Spurs are keen to strengthen their squad this summer despite already signing several new players for big fees, but they are close to securing another £86million with Gareth Bale set to leave the club with Real Madrid his likely destination.
Despite being the club’s player of the season last year, it is thought that Jose Mourinho is not prepared to give Mata the sort of game-time he wants and the Spaniard faces more competition now because of the arrival of Willian from Anzhi.
The Brazilian was close to joining Spurs after passing a medical and the two parties agreeing on a deal, but in a late twist, Chelsea offered £5million more and the player favoured a move to Stamford Bridge rather than White Hart Lane.
It is unknown how much Spurs are willing to offer Chelsea for Mata, but with around £86 million coming their way from the Bale transfer, there is no doubt that they can afford the Spaniard.
However, there is also talks that The Blues may offer Manchester United money plus Mata for striker Wayne Rooney.
Mourinho has been after Rooney all summer and he is now prepared to give David Moyes a midfielder, which the former-Everton boss has been searching for.
