Tottenham Hotspur could sensationally pull the plug on Gareth Bale’s transfer to Real Madrid after their deal for Willian looks set to collapse because of late interest from rivals Chelsea.
The Welsh winger was all-but set to join Madrid after the two clubs opened advanced talks over the potential deal, but reports are now circulating that chairman Daniel Levy does not want to sell the winger because of the late interest shown by Chelsea for Brazilian midfielder Willian.
Spurs thought they had secured the transfer of the Anzhi midfielder after he passed a medical at the club a couple of days ago, however, reports broke out on Thursday evening that Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea were prepared to offer the Russian club £5million more for the midfield-maestro.
This move from Chelsea has annoyed Levy so much that he is now threatening to pull the plug on Bale’s transfer to the Bernabeu as he now wants to keep the midfielder because it seems that Willian was his chosen replacement.
Officials at White Hart Lane are in a state of shock over the Willian saga and it is expected that they will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow to discuss what their next move is.
