Tottenham’s midfield maestro Andros Townsend has penned a new four year deal at White Hart Lane after some superb performances which have caught the eye of both Tottenham manager Andre Villas Boas and England national team manager Roy Hodgson.

The 22-year-old has become a first-team regular this season and for both his club and country and  scored on his full England debut in a 4-1 hammering of Montenegro at Wembley , and followed up his superb performance on his debut with another great display against Poland as England qualified for the World Cup Final’s.

Townsend , who has shone in Spurs midfield after breaking through into the first team after starring in a struggling Queens Park Rangers side last season which earned him plaudits from the manager at his parent club Tottenham.

Townsend was nurtured by former manager Harry Redknapp , who prepared him for first team life at Spurs with first team football at the Hoops…..as Andros volleyed in a superb finish as Redknapp’s men beat Sunderland 3-1 at Loftus Road in what proved to be a failed relegation battle as Townsend couldn’t prevent QPR slipping down to the second tier.

The versatile young midfielder has had loan spells at nine respective clubs which include…..

  • Yeovil 2009: 10 apps, 1 goal
  • Leyton Orient 2009-10: 26 apps, 2 goals
  • MK Dons 2010: 9 apps, 2 goals
  • Ipswich 2010: 16 apps, 1 goal
  • Watford 2011: 3 apps, 0 goals
  • Millwall 2011: 11 apps, 2 goals
  • Leeds 2012: 7 apps, 1 goal
  • Birmingham 2012: 16 apps, 0 goals
  • QPR 2013: 12 apps. 2 goals

Townsend has clearly proved his worth recently….. and his club manager Andre Villas Boas was quoted in an interview

“We’re very proud of what he has done.

“We have seen him play with so much confidence and determination, he’s really set his place in the team, for Tottenham and for his country.

“Whenever he’s been called up by myself or Roy he’s given great performances.

“At the moment we’re very happy with what he’s been doing and I think Roy thinks the same.

“It’s wonderful for him. He’s come along with the explosion he had in the Premier League, not just with Tottenham but with his country.

“He is doing extremely well for club and country and deserves credit.”

We’ll wait and see how it pans out but Andros looks to have a bright future with both club and country.
