Conte wants to bring two midfielders to Chelsea this summer

Chelsea have put talks over a move for AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan on hold, after baulking at their £40 million asking price.

Antonio Conte is targeting the Belgium international as part of a revamp, when he arrives at Stamford Bridge this summer. But the Blues have put those talks to one side, as they consider their options.

Naingollan has made 29 appearances for the Giallorossi, scoring three goals, and Chelsea are hoping to tempt him away from Italy, where he has spent his entire career.

However, Chelsea are not willing to pay such a figure for a player that turns 28 next month – especially with their policy of handing one-year deals to players once they turn 30.

Plenty of options

Chelsea are not short of midfield targets either, with Conte eyeing Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal, Miralem Pjanic and former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

Meanwhile, Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante is also attracting the Blue interest. But Conte is likely to prefer to sign players he has watched regularly in Italy, while in charge of the national team.

And while the 46-year-old will be keen to bring in fresh faces to Stamford Bridge, he is also set to hold talks with Blues veteran John Terry, although the chances of the defender signing a new deal still seem slim, after he admitted he would leave Chelsea back in January.
