England striker set to head to Euro 2016 as an Arsenal player

Arsenal expect to have completed the signing of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy in a ÂŁ20 million deal, before the 29-year-old heads off to the European Championships with England.

It was revealed on Friday that Arsene Wenger’s Gunners had asked to speak with Jamie Vardy, after they triggered his ÂŁ20 million release clause, opening him up to talk with the north Londoners. And now that move could be sealed by as early as Monday.

Reports suggest the former Fleetwood Town frontman will undergo a medical at Arsenal on Sunday, before the deal is officially confirmed on Monday, when Vardy will fly out to France with the rest of the England squad.

Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson has made it clear that he does’t want any medicals taking place why his players are at Euro 2016; therefore making it a tight window for Arsenal to secure the signing of the second top scorer in the Premier League this season.

And it is understood that the club are worried that they won’t get the deal done in time, and will face missing out on the striker, if he performs well at the Euros and his value increases.

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri admitted to an Italian newspaper on Saturday: “Yes, it’s all true”, regarding Arsenal’s interest, which could see Vardy secure a four-year deal worth in excess of ÂŁ100,000-a-week.

The Football Writers’ Player of the Year signed a new deal at Leicester just four months ago, and has stated that he is happy at the current Premier League champions, but a move to Arsenal could be seen as the 29-year-old’s last chance to make a move to an elite club.

He netted 24 times to guide Leicester to the Premier League title just weeks ago, and his prolific scoring in 2015/16 attracted the interest of Manchester United and Liverpool, also, while the former are reportedly disappointed they missed out on the striker.

However, Liverpool failed to meet the release clause in the player’s contract, which therefore allowed Wenger to step in with a bigger and better offer.
