Watford forward Troy Deeney feels Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is currently the best in business in the Premier League.
A few eyebrows were raised when Liverpool agreed to pay a mammoth £75m to Southampton to acquire the service of van Dijk. But his arrival has brought calmness and stability to the Liverpool defence as the Dutch international has been an ever present in the Reds backline.
Liverpool’s brilliant defensive performance saw them conceding just on one occasion which speaks volumes about his influence. Defence had been the cause of concern for Jurgen Klopp as the Merseyside outfit had the habit of letting in goals but the big defender has formed an unbreakable partnership with Joe Gomez in the heart of the Reds defence.
Denney said, “I always think Van Dijk is the best around. I said it this year; I said it last year.
“Because he is a nightmare for someone like me. He’s 6ft4in, I think, and I’m just about 6ft. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s fast. He can play
“And he doesn’t mind, you know, getting physical as well, so if someone like me gets him it’s a nightmare.
“I always think before that I’m going to have to be playing the best of my career if I’m to get even anything out of him.”
