Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has revealed that the trust Arsene Wenger has in him was one of the main reasons behind his move from Real Madrid to the Premier League side.
The German international completed his move to the Emirates Stadium on transfer deadline day for £42.3million and the midfield-man had his first official press conference yesterday alongside Wenger.
When asked about his surprise move to The Gunners, Ozil admitted that Wenger’s trust in him was crucial for the move to go through.
“The most important thing is the manager trusts me and that I can get trust from him,” said Ozil. “This was the most crucial point for me.
“I would have come here for free, that wouldn’t have been a problem. When I spoke to Arsène Wenger on the phone he was full of respect and as a player I need that.
“I will have wonderful years here, hopefully I will win many trophies here and stay healthy. This is what I look forward to.”
