PSG boss denied Arsenal talks

Thomas Tuchel, Paris Saint Germain’s boss has denied the talks of him replacing Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

He insisted that he was never close in signing a contract with the Gunners, when Arsene Wenger was leaving the side. Wenger was in command of the Gunners for 22 years and was also the most successful manager in the history of the club.

Wenger announced his departure on 20 April 2018 that he would step down as Arsenal manager at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Tuchel was linked to Arsenal but the manager was already set to replace Unai Emery at PSG. Interestingly Unai Emery replaced Arsene Wenger at the Emirates stadium.

Tuchel was linked to a move to Arsenal since the time the manager was managing the German club, Borussia Dortmund. His work ethics and style of play was very much similar to that of Arsene Wenger and he was the frontrunner in replacing Wenger at Emirates Stadium.

In his pre-match conference against Arsenal, Paris Saint Germain boss denied the fact that he was in contact with a move to Arsenal. He said, “To be honest, I made my decision before Arsene Wenger made his decision,”

“I never got in touch and I made the decision to move to Paris before Wenger took the decision to resign. “I don’t know if I was ever meant to be his successor or not. I didn’t think about it because there was no question in the situation I was.”

Tuchel admitted that Arsene Wenger is not finished with his coaching tactics and will be back in some days.

“He will keep on coaching,” Tuchel added.

“It isn’t my right to talk about him but I imagine it must be a strange feeling not to manage the shirts from Arsenal because he was more than just a coach. He was Arsenal, he is a gentleman, one of the biggest coaches in the world and somewhere I have the feeling he isn’t finished yet.”

“I have the biggest respect for him, he built a club that is famously known for its style of football, he is like an idol and a role model for every coach – especially for me.”
