It has been verified by The Athletic that two Chelsea players will remain in Enzo Maresca’s starting lineup this season instead of joining the U21 squad or going on any late loan or permanent moves. There has been significant discussion about players possibly departing Chelsea during the remaining international transfer windows throughout the world. In reality, yesterday, Fabrizio Romano granted the go-ahead for winger Angelo Gabriel to join Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia from Chelsea.
Therefore, some late transactions may still occur. No late deals will be made for Chelsea midfielders Cesare Casadei and/or Carney Chukwuemeka to depart this summer, though. Furthermore, they are not going to join the U21 team. The Athletic, at least, says that.
Casadei and Chukwuemeka staying with first team
Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei will remain and be a part of Chelsea’s first team squad, according to The Athletic. Carney hasn’t played much under Maresca thus far. Both players have made relatively few appearances for Maresca this season and hardly at all throughout the preseason. Unless there are a ton of injuries, I don’t see them playing at all.
A player who fills the identical job in the eight roles, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, was also signed by Chelsea this summer. Chelsea has Joao Felix, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, and Enzo Fernandez also in contention for that post. The likelihood of Casadei and Chukwuemeka starting many games or even seeing any playing time decreases significantly when you factor in their usage, which is obviously limited to European games. It’s not visible, though.
