Manchester City has just recorded their second consecutive loss in the Premier League this season after a 2-1 throwdown at the King Power Stadium on Boxing Day.

The Premier League champions were noted to be heavy favourites ahead of this current season to reclaim the trophy for themselves but are now 7 points behind Liverpool. Pep Guardiola admitted that doubt might be creeping in among the players and there are teams who are currently better than them, despite their remarkable talent pool.

He said, “The reality is there are two or three teams better than us, so they are better. We’re not talking about whether we can take Liverpool or get to Liverpool or whatever, the issue is about winning another game, and thinking in ourselves about how we can improve.”

“They [Tottenham and Liverpool] deserve it, they win games, we don’t win games, so the gap increases. Last season we were so consistent in making a lot of points, and this season especially Liverpool and Tottenham they are so good.”
“So at the end today we finish the first round and we have of course these last two defeats, but we have done enough points to be champion! A lot of points we have done!”

You can almost imagine Guardiola going on full blast in the dressing after such a loss. The Citizens have been hit with a reality check with more than half of the Premier League season left to play.

We can hope for the race to spice up even more now, hearing Guardiola’s final words – “The result is the result, it is what it is. We lost again, we have to accept the reality, we have to come back as soon as possible to win again. Not just for all the competitions but for ourselves. For our mood, our confidence, our desire.”
