Unai Emery has decided against using Mesut Ozil in the League Cup tie against Tottenham.
The Arsenal star has been left out for “tactical reasons”, says the boss.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has said that star midfielder Mesut Ozil has been left out of the side for the match against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup and has cited it as a “tactical” decision. The Spaniard has not been giving the former German international much time out on the pitch and had last handed him a 20-minute cameo in the match against Southampton, which the Gunners lost by 3-2 at the St Mary’s Stadium.
Mesut Ozil, who has been in and out of the side at the north London club, has evidently not been able to win over his manager. Emery has been using him in bits and pieces role in some matches while benching him for entire matches as well. The manager has cited “tactical reasons” behind his exclusion this time, as the Gunners take on their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium.
Ozil has been suffering from a back problem which kept him out of the side for some time, but now the player is completely fit and good to go. However, with Emery deciding otherwise, it is to be seen how the situation develops for the player at the north London club.
