The manager will leave the club at the end of the season

Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery has announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season. He made the announcement at a press conference on Friday and claimed that it was his own decision. He will step down after the club face third-tier Les Herbiers in the French Cup final at the Stade de France in Paris on May 8.

Despite guiding the French giants to Ligue 1 title this season as they reclaimed the crown from Monaco, failures in the Champions League jeopardize his position as the club’s main aim is to win the Champions League. They were knocked out by Real Madrid in the round of 16.

PSG hired Emery on the basis of his stellar European record, winning three Europa League titles with Sevilla.

The former Sevilla boss said, as quoted by The Sun: “I have told the players, Antero and the president that it is finished. I thank everybody. All that remains is the Coupe de France final.

“After an hour-long meeting between friends, I will leave with respect.

“If they ask me, I will help the new coach.

“First of all, PSG must be strong domestically – I believe in this project.”

Former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel is tipped to replace the 46 year old at PSG next season.
