Unai Emery says trophies is a bigger priority than top four finish

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is more focused on winning trophies than finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season. Arsenal started the Premier League poorly by losing their first two matches against Manchester City and Chelsea. However, they bounced back strongly by beating West Ham, Cardiff City and Newcastle. The Gunners also began the Europa League strongly with a 4-2 win over Ukrainian club Vorskla Poltava.

When asked if he wanted to return to the Champions League by winning the Europa League, Emery replied, “One choice? For me, the Europa League is very important. It is one title and I think for us, every title is the best way, the best performance, the best future.

Emery however, isn’t undermining the importance of the Premier League. He said, “The Premier League is very important because I think it is the first competition of importance for us, because that gives us the big credibility on this season. Thirty-eight matches give us and give them (opponents) the clarity to show who is the best for the top four.

It is clear that we have a very, very competitive team to do that – I am confident in my team.”

Arsenal play Everton at the Emirates Stadium today.
