Manchester United want to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek but Chelsea have made numerous promises to keep the midfielder at Stamford Bridge.

The England U21 international signed a new five-year deal earlier this week, which is worth around £60,000-a-week.

Loftus-Cheek said he was over the moon to sign a contract extension at the club he grew up supporting but limited chances in the first-team could have been the deciding option.

Chelsea have promised to give the 20-year-old a chance to establish himself as a first-team regular and maybe even a starter, according to The Telegraph.

Former Blues manager Jose Mourinho publicly criticised some of the midfielder’s performances which put doubt into the minds of the Chelsea board as to whether he would agree a new deal with the club.

Manchester United had been monitoring the promising youngster this season, with the Red Devils making a last ditch decision not to make a move for Loftus-Cheek in the January transfer window.

Manchester City and Bayern Munich were also interested in signing the starlet, who has been dubbed to be the next ‘Yaya Toure’.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink is a keen admirer of Loftus-Cheek and has claimed that he will feature more in their remaining 11 Premier League games of this season.

On Loftus-Cheek, he said: “In the upcoming match games there will be options as well. I have him in mind to start of course.

“We have analysed him in training and the way he has to progress. He is working on that and it will pay off.

“He’s a young guy. When I came here I thought he was 23-24, but he’s 20. It indicates he has a future.

“We are working on a specific plan what he can improve on. It will pay off in the upcoming games. I don’t give any guarantees, but he will have his minutes” he added.
