Manchester United have been joined by several big clubs in the chase for Roma defender Mehdi Benatia.
Benatia has played an instrumental part in Roma’s defence this season, conceding only 18 goals in Serie A, the lowest of all the Italian teams.
Having only left Udinese last summer, several big clubs are scouting him as a potential purchase this coming transfer window. His agent has said:
“He is fully mature – he is a rock in defence, unbeatable in the air, and has extraordinary technique and great human qualities.”
“His future? The directors of Roma know that other big clubs are interested and watching. A meeting is planned with the club and we will see what will be his decision. Although today, he feels very, very well at Roma.”
With captain Nemenja Vidic leaving in the summer, and with the likely departures of Ferdinand and Evra, David Moyes needs a couple of signings in order to strength his defense and Benatia is an ideal candidate.
