Forward left United for Real in summer 2009 for £80m

Real Madrid are thought to be considering offering Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United this summer, for just £48.5million.

Ronaldo moved to Madrid in summer 2009 for a then world-record £80million fee, but Spanish media are reporting that Real are considering cashing in on one of the world’s best players, with his contract expiring in 2018, which could give him a route back to the Premier League. They consider Ronaldo to be ‘losing value’ due to time on his contract running out.

The Portuguese spent 6 years at Old Trafford, where he won 3 Premier League titles, the Champions League, an FA Cup and 3 League Cups in a well-decorated stint at the club.

Despite winning El Clasico 2-1 at the Nou Camp on Saturday, it has been a less than impressive campaign for Real, they sacked initial manager Rafa Benitez after just 7 months in charge, and despite the win on Saturday, sit 7 points behind leaders Barcelona in La Liga. A 2-0 loss in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final at Wolfsburg last night didn’t help them either.
