Acoording to reports Jose Mourinho wants Costa and has instructed United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to assess the possibility of signing him during the summer transfer window.

United believes a £40m bid would be enough to sign the 27 year old.The Reds said to have received sufficient encouragement following an initial inquiry about the potential availability of the player according to Irish Mirror.

Former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson monitored his progress with a view to making a move for Costa when he was impressing at home club Gremio and later Shakhtar Donetsk, but the switch never happened.

Costa joined Bayern Munich in 2015 for a €30m fee on a 5 year deal. After spending 2 seasons their,he moved to Juventus on a 1 year loan deal until the end of the 2017-2018 season. Juventus has an option to make the deal permanent  on July 1 2018,for an additional €40m fee.

If Juventus ultimately decides not to sign Costa on permanent basis, then it would leave United free to step in and sign him.

Though Mourinho claimed he will not sign any attacking player this summer but when a opportunity comes to sign a player of Costa’s calibre it’s not easy to pass it.And with future of Martial and Mata not clear,Costa could be an important signing.

Costa has been very impressive for the Italian giants especially in the last few weeks. He also played an important part in their stunning 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
