Spanish left-back attracting interest from top English clubs

Manchester United are ready to meet the £36 million release clause in Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya’s contract, following Luke Shaw injury.

Louis Van Gaal will hope to bring in the 20-year-old Spain Under-21 in January, as they look to fill the void left by England left-back, Shaw’s season-ending injury.

Shaw broke his leg following a hefty challenge from PSV defender Hector Moreno, meaning he will be out for around nine months.

Therefore, United will be desperate to ensure they avoid an injury crisis, with their earliest opportunity to bolster their options being January.

Competition for Gaya signature

The Spaniard could be spoilt for choice as of the New Year, with Chelsea and Arsenal also interested in Gaya, who has made 38 league appearances for Valencia.

However, there is no guarantee the Spanish youngster will want to move from his current club, after signing a new five-year deal back in May.

Gaya has risen through the youth system at Valencia, starting out as a striker, before moving to left-back. Therefore United can be confident that he will be a like for like replacement for Shaw, who also shows intent in getting forward.
