Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho prepares £50m bid for Liverpool transfer target Jorginho

Manchester United have joined Liverpool in the battle to sign Jorginho and are reportedly preparing a £50million bid for the Napoli star.

Jose Mourinho is searching the market for midfield reinforcements with Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini both set to leave at the end of the season.

Jorginho has attracted much interest from the Premier League, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said to be a huge admirer of the Italy international.

According to the Daily Star, Mourinho is determined to win the race to secure his signature and will tell United to tempt Napoli with an initial £50m offer.

The Red Devils have sent scouts to track Jorginho’s progress in Italy this season and Mourinho is believed to view him as a perfect partner for Nemanja Matic.

Speaking last month, Mourinho confirmed United’s top summer target would be a midfielder. “We need to sign a midfield player,” he said. “Because we are going to lose Michael Carrick. Of course, we need balance in the team.

“Some of you [the media] keep saying that we are going to buy that striker, that winger, that left winger, that right winger. You can accuse me of many things, but you cannot say that I lied to you.

“When I don’t want to say things, I don’t say [them]. But I don’t take you in other directions. We are looking and we are going to try to sign a midfield player.”
