Usain Bolt calls time on his dreams of playing professional football

Sprint legend Usain Bolt has come up with an announcement that he is not going to pursue his dreams of being a professional footballer any longer, saying that it was fun to be involved in football but also admitted that things were not handled in the best possible manner.

Bolt, who won multiple gold medals in Beijing, London and Rio Olympics, decided to try his hand in football following his retirement from track and field events. He was on trial with a few clubs but could not come to terms with any of them.

Bolt had trained with Borussia Dortmund‘s reserves and was offered a contract by Maltese club Valletta in October but his best opportunity came with Australian club Central Coast Mariners.

The 32-year-old scored a brace for the club in a friendly in October and was even offered a contract but the A-League outfit didn’t have the financial backing to pay Bolt’s desired wages.

Having failed to negotiate terms with any of the potential clubs, Bolt has now decided to pull the curtains on his sporting career, with the legend saying that he is interested to pursue other things like business.

“I don’t want to say it wasn’t dealt with properly, but I think we went about it, not the way we should and you learn your lesson, you live and you learn,” Bolt said.

“It was a good experience. I really enjoyed just being in a team and it was different from track and field and it was fun while it lasted.”

“I’m just doing many different things – the sports life is over, so I’m now moving into different businesses,” Bolt added. “I have a lot of things in the pipeline, so as I say, I’m just dabbling in everything and trying to be a businessman now.”
