Los Che prepared to make move for Mikel this summer

Valencia are set to renew their interest in Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel this summer.

The La Liga outfit took an interest in the Nigeria international two years ago, but nothing came of their interest at the time.

Mikel has been considering his future at Stamford Bridge for some time, having fell out of favour with previous boss Jose Mourinho. But has been a regular feature under interim boss Guus Hiddink.

Los Che are hopeful they can strike a deal with Chelsea for the 29-year-old this time around, as they look to bolster their squad after an underwhelming season that sees them currently eighth in the league.

Wages proving problematic

However, even if Valencia agree a deal with the Blues, to take the Nigerian midfielder to the Mestalla, Mikel’s £4 million-per-year wages could prove a stumbling block.

It is understood the club can’t afford the players wages, and will have to agree to a cut-price deal, if he is to move to Spain in hope of guaranteed regular first-team football.

Valencia will make a final decision about a transfer for the player at the end of the season. While Chelsea have offered their veteran midfielder a new contract, which the player has yet to sign.

And with new boss Antonio Conte set to take over this summer, Mikel may decide to wait on making a decision about his future, until he here’s from the Italian boss about what plans he has for him next season.
