Valencia want Juan Mata back in January

Spanish side Valencia are plotting to make a bid for former-midfielder Juan Mata, after the Spaniard has fallen down the pecking order at Premier League side Chelsea.

Despite being the club’s best player last season, Mata doesn’t seem to be in Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans and hasn’t featured a lot this season.

The Spaniard’s future was thrown into doubt this summer after Mourinho admitted that he wasn’t a guaranteed starter, but the 25-year-old eventually stayed at Stamford Bridge, despite interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.

With nothing changing in his fortunes, Mata may look to move in January and his former club, Valencia, are planning on making a bid to bring him back to Spain, but will face competition from Premier League trio United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

The only blocking point for Valencia is their financial issue, however, there are reports in Spain suggesting that sponsorship deals will help them raise ÂŁ25million.
