Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has lavished praise on superstar forward Lionel Messi and has said that his “competitive spirit” is his best attribute. The Blaugrana star has already scored 21 goals this season in all competitions and has shown no signs of stopping. The reigning La Liga champions are currently at the top of the league table with a three points difference with Atletico Madrid, who are currently on the second spot. They are 10 points clear of arch-rivals Real Madrid, who are currently on the fourth position in the league table with a game in their hands.
Speaking to Barca TV, the Spanish gaffer said, “What I’d most highlight about Leo Messi is his huge sense of responsibility for the team. It shows in every game in every competition.”
He also added, “What he does is not only difficult, but he does it again and again … That takes enormous mental strength. I have never known anyone with such an amazing competitive spirit.”
The Barcelona gaffer also spoke about the influence of young Ousmane Dembele on the side and said that he has a lot to offer. He said, “We have always said what a talented player he is. We wanted to see that talent on the pitch. And this year we’re getting to see a lot of what he has to offer, but I am still hoping that there’s even more.”
