Man United are keeping an eye on the Real Madrid defender
Louis Van Gaal is considering a bid for Raphael Varane, according to reports.
The United manager is keen to add strength to the Red Devils defence and he feels Varane would be an ideal signing to help bolster the backline.
He could make a bid as early as January but he may have to wait until next summer to sign the 22-year old. Either way, Van Gaal is eager to do business and he has reportedly named the Madrid man as his top target.
Relationship between the clubs
However, the only stumbling block is the current relationship between the two clubs.
Not only is Rafa Benitez unwilling to let Varane leave but after the David De Gea saga – when a deal collapsed a day before the transfer deadline – the relationship between Madrid and United is at an all-time low.
