The Colombian international has been used as substitute in United’s last two games, coming off the bench in the games at home to both Hull City and Stoke City, having recently come back from a calf injury.
And the 28-year-old striker, who is on loan at Old Trafford from French side Monaco, is only fit enough to play 20 minutes per game, according to his manager.
“I have selected him in spite of the fact he can only play for 20 minutes.” Stated Van Gaal.
“It would be a better contribution if he played with the second team, but I cannot do that because on Tuesday we had the match against Stoke and Wayne Rooney was injured.” The Dutch manager continued.
Rooney is expected to be fit for Monday’s televised fixture away at Southampton at St Mary’s.
Falcao has just recovered from a knee-ligament injury that he sustained whilst with Monaco in January, which subsequently kept him out of Colombia’s World Cup squad.
