New Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal says he has gone from ‘the king of Manchester to the devil’ within two week of his new job.

The Dutch boss endured a very successfull pre-season in which no game was lost, tipping United for a better challenge this season than the last.

However, normal order resumed with United suffering a 2-1 home defeat against Swansea and Van Gaal admits to already feeling the pressure that has been piled upon his shoulders.

Van Gaal said: “It is always like that.

“Two weeks ago I was the King of Manchester and now I am the devil of Manchester.”

“It is the football world. I think the fans of Manchester United are intelligent.”

“I have already said in the US that the first three months should be difficult, not just for the players, but also the fans, and I also said it to Ed Woodward and the Glazers.”

“They have hired me because of my philosophy, not because I am a nice person. I am, but I am here because of my philosophy.”

“I have not been hired to be fired. I am here to build up a team, that is a process, which needs time.”
