Van Gaal will NOT sign defenders in January

Louis Van Gaal has rubbished suggestions that he will need to strengthen Man United’s defence in the January transfer window. The Dutchman has claimed that the club have “more than enough” defensive cover and quality despite all the injuries to his team.

Chris Smalling is now suffering from a groin problem, while Luke Shaw, Rafael, Daley Blind and Phil Jones are all also out of action. It has left the Red Devils extremely short in defence with Van Gaal having to bring in youth defenders Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett as cover. He even played Michael Carrick in a defensive position halfway through the side’s game against Southampton on Monday.

Even though they managed to beat Southampton 2-1, they still looked weak in defence and it has led to calls for Van Gaal to bring in some new defenders in the winter transfer window. However, LVG has stated that it will not be his priority in January, saying:

“When you have injuries you cannot solve the problem otherwise. Do we have to buy players? No. We have more than enough.”
