Marco Van Ginkel has revealed he left Chelsea for AC Milan this summer on a season long-loan deal because the Italian giants made him feel wanted.

The midfielder only joined the London based club in the summer of 2013, from Chelsea’s Dutch feeder club Vitesse Arnheim.

He joined for ÂŁ8 million and played his part in the club’s opening  fixtures, before he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligaments in a League cup clash in September against Swindon Town.

After being left to watch from the stands for six months, Van Ginkel returned to action for the Under-21’s in March 2014. However, his injuries along with the fact that the bulk of Chelsea’s squad is foreign meant that he was left out of their Champions League squad this year.

He was essentially deemed surplus to requirements and so he has gone out on loan to the San Siro for the seaso to get some game time under his belt ahead of his return to Stamford Bridge in 2014/15.
