Dutch forward Robin van Persie has denied claims that he needs surgery on his knee which would supposedly keep him out of action for months.

Reports earlier this week suggested that this was the case however, and the operation was postponed due to the World Cup.

It was also claimed that new loan-signing Radamel Falcao was brought in by Louis van Gaal to replace the Netherlands international, but he has now publically stated that these rumours are false.

Van Persie told FOX Sports“I don’t know where these rumours are coming from.

“I can honestly say that I will not visit a hospital any time soon to undergo surgery. You need quite a lively fantasy to come up with this nonsense.”

He then went on to say that he is happy to fight for his place at Old Trafford and the arrival of Colombian star Falcao will help boost the morale of the club.

“I am happy with the arrival of Falcao,” added the striker.

“He makes us a better team. You always have to aim for the best at a big club. That’s my philosophy as well. Falcao has to fight for his place, just like me. The two of us and Wayne Rooney and James Wilson will have to fight it out.”
