Louis van Gaal put more pressure on Manchester United manager David Moyes as he insisted Robin van Persie is happier in Dutch camp than with the stuttering Premier League champions.

Like much of United’s misfiring squad, Van Persie has been out of sorts this term as Moyes’s team sit way off the pace in seventh place.

However the Holland manager, in Brazil alongside Roy Hodgson and all World Cup managers for a FIFA workshop, insisted his skipper can still shine in Brazil – because he is more comfortable there.

‘I think he should be great in the tournament because he loves to play in the Dutch squad,’ said Van Gaal, whose side kick off the tournament against champions Spain.

‘The football from Man Utd now is for him maybe difficult but then he wishes to show his techniques. Techniques in the Dutch team for him is higher.

‘He has shown that all the qualification matches more than ever because he’s our top scorer and I hope he can continue this.’

Van Gaal also confirmed he has been in contact with Tottenham Hotspur and has his heart set on a summer move to the Premier League – in spite of the fact that Spurs boss Tim Sherwood is under contract for next season.

‘I am mostly interested in England because I have been a training coach in Spain, Germany, in the Netherlands so I think England is the next step in my career,’ said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich supremo.

‘It could be another club [other than Spurs], it depends on the vacancies because Spurs was already [in touch] with me, I prefer be focused on this World Cup and now there’ s another coach [Sherwood] so as coach you cannot say I go to that club or that club, it depends on circumstances.’
