Veloso: Ronaldo is training well

Portugal’s Miguel Veloso is confident in the fitness of their star winger Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming he is able to “jump and shoot” in training with no issues.

Worries surrounding the fitness of the captain have been the major talking points of their side’s World Cup campaign, with Ronaldo confirmed to be suffering from a knee problem.

The Real Madrid star did play a part in his side’s 4-0 loss to Germany in their opening match but he was forced to leave training early and there were reports which suggested team doctors told him his career would be at risk if he decided to play through the injury.

Veloso however, is confident there are no problems with the 29 year-old and he will make an appearance against the United States.

He told reporters: “I’m not a doctor but from what I see, Cristiano Ronaldo is fine.

“He is training, he is jumping and he is shooting. There is not much else to say.”

Meanwhile left-back Fabio Coentrao has been ruled out with a groin injury picked up during the Germany match so Veloso has expressed he has no problems with filling in the defensive position.

“I’m in a group of 23 players and I’m ready to play in any position that the coach chooses. That could be at left-back or in central midfield,” he said.

“I’ll do so with pleasure, because what we all want is to play and to do the best we possibly can.”
