Villa to block Benteke transfer

Sherwood and co. plan to scupper the Belgian’s plan to force a cut-price move to Liverpool.

Benteke is to be told that they won’t be bullied into selling him.

Aston Villa are reportedly willing to sell the striker, but only for the £32.5 million release clause agreed in his contract.

Liverpool however are extremely reluctant to match that figure, and Sherwood is refusing to budge on the figure.

Benteke however, is reportedly ready to make it clear to Sherwood that he wants to move, without handing in a transfer request.

The 24-year-old apparently sees a move to Merseyside as a key factor in strengthening his claim for a starting spot at the 2016 Euros for Belgium.

But the Villa manager is ready to tell Benteke that the best way he can do that is to have a settled and consistent season at Villa Park.

Villa Desperate to keep Striker

It is also expected that Benteke will be told he is not in any position of power, with the striker still having two years to run on his contract.

Sherwood, along with the Villa fans, believe that Benteke is absolutely crucial if the club are to avoid another relegation battle this season.

The striker netted twelve goals during Sherwood’s time at Villa, and it was his goal haul that helped draw Villa away from near certain relegation.

But for the time being, the deal looks to have hit a dead end, with Liverpool’s valuation of the striker not rising over £10 million, which will instantly be swatted away by Villa.
