Andre Villas Boas is a reported target for West Bromwich Albion according to broadsheet daily Newspaper The Times, in a shock twist in the managerial merry go round that has engulfed the Premier League over recent weeks.

Villas Boas was sacked on Monday morning after a string of bad results, and also apparently for not playing out of favour Togo international striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a regular basis.

But it seems Villas Boas, 36, could be handed a route back into English football, with West Bromwich Albion in line to approach the former Chelsea manager.

The Baggies have begun to start looking for target’s to replace the recently sacked Steve Clarke, who left his job after a defeat to Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, leaving the Albion in 16th position.

Former Tottenham Hotspur bosses Martin Jol and Villas-Boas believed to be among the first men assessed by Dan Ashworth and the rest of the West Bromwich Albion hiarachy.

Aswell as the recently sacked Villas Boas, Albion are also currently looking at Schalke 04 manager  Ralf Rangnick, who almost landed the job ahead of Clarke in 2012, is expected to be considered again.

Albion seem unlikely to make a swift appointment with caretaker boss Keith Downing expected to take charge against recently promoted Hull City on Saturday and possibly keep the reins into the Christmas programme.

Other names thrown into the ring are former manager Roberto Di Mattao, who managed the Hawthorns side from 2009-2011, enjoying a successful spell in the Black Country.

Albion are trying to end the Swiss/Italian’s stand off with Chelsea,  as Di Matteo still picks up a staggering ÂŁ130,000-a-week on gardening leave from Chelsea.

He has already banked around ÂŁ7million and has another ÂŁ3.4m to collect before next summer when his contract expires.

Gianfranco Zola and Malky Mackay are also being considered as successors to the sacked Clarke.
