Virgil van dijk says that Liverpool will remain grounded

Liverpool have had a blistering start to the new season having won their first six matches. Virgil van Dijk’s influence has been one of the main reason behind their meteoric rise but the defender doesn’t want to lose his focus despite the brilliant start.

The Reds passed the Paris Saint Germain test with full marks but they are scheduled to go through a number of tough opponents with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in the coming days.

Van Dijk’s leadership has helped Jurgen Klopp in rebuilding the defence as the Dutch international has been pretty rock solid since the start of the season. The 27 year old was at his usual best as he paved away the PSG attackers from doing much damage.

Van Dijk said, “We have to keep working hard and stay humble. We have a tough game on Saturday with Southampton, then Chelsea and Manchester City coming up.

“If you are going to be out on the pitch and you don’t believe that, then you had better stay at home.

“We were not in the Champions League final last season for no reason. We already deserve respect for what we did but in football you have to keep proving yourself because it always starts again.

“The season has only just started and we can’t take anything for granted and get ahead of ourselves.”
