After conquering Paris Saint Germain, Virgil van Dijk has revealed their self belief helped them in getting a good start in the Champions League.
Since his arrival at the Anfield, the defender has been one of the most influential players and his presence has brought a sense of optimism to the side. The Reds have turned their home ground to a fortress and credit should be given to the big Dutch defender.
Jurgen Klopp‘s side showed their intent as they defeated PSG 3-2 to stamp their authority in the Champions League. Daniel Sturridge, James Milner and Roberto Firmino were on target for the home side while Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe registered their name on the score sheet.
Van Dijk said, “We have belief – you have to have belief.
“We want to do at least as well as we did last season. That’s a very hard thing to do, but you have to believe.”
He went on to add, “We didn’t just have a plan to control Neymar – we had a plan to control the whole team. They have many great players and we did very well. Everyone’s excited.
“We’ve made a good start but we haven’t won anything yet. We need to show it every week – every three days – and keep going. But we’re obviously very pleased.”
